Håyun Lågu Trunk
The Håyun Lågu tree can grow up to 118 feet tall making it one of the largest trees that grow on Guam.
Because of the size of the Håyun Lågu tree, scientists recorded uses of the tree to be for shade and timber. Timber was used for things like shelters and canoes.

Their 6 feet around trunks have to withstand the extreme weather conditions that Guam faces with typhoons. With winds up to 196 mph, super typhoons damage plants easily and result in broken trunks and/or uprooted trees. These weather patterns have been changing throughout the course of history which changes the way Guam’s plants and animals recover from weather events.

To learn more about typhoons and other weather conditions on Guam, and how you can help your family be prepared visit the Guam Homeland Security website located here.
