Håyun Lågu Seeds

Seeds give us hope for the future. The Håyun Lågu seeds are shaped like pea pods. There are many efforts underway to save the Håyun Lågu tree species on Guam.

Pea Pod Shaped

The Håyun Lågu seeds are a part of the legume, or pea, family. That makes them tasty to animals.

Saplings

Seeds and saplings are grown in a nursery and monitored until they can be put into different places where they can be protected for growth giving them the greatest chance of survival. You can see a sapling at the Ritidian Wildlife Refuge near the nature trail.

Field Trip Idea

Explore Guam!

Please take a visit to the Ritidian Wildlife Refuge to learn more about the Marianas Fruit Bat, Koko Bird, and the Brown Tree Snake. Don't forget to stop by the nature trail and see one of the saplings.

After visiting the websites or the refuge, draw a picture of the animal that you find the most interesting and one of the Håyun Lågu tree sapling. If you or your parents use social media, and with permission, you can upload your drawings and #guamdepartmentofagriculture and/or #håyunlågutree.
